This guide is for anyone planning a character for World of Warcraft: Forever, newbies and WoW veterans alike. It gives every class a leveling path, the build types and the scenarios each one suits, and a profession pair, plus a gold routine, routes from 1 to 60, and notes on healing or tanking dungeons while you level.
We started from what worked in original World of Warcraft and checked every call against what Blizzard has published for Forever. Three marks appear throughout. Confirmed for Forever means Blizzard said it. Beta means it was seen in a beta build and may change before launch on November 4. Not yet confirmed means Blizzard has not said either way, so the call rests on how the original game worked. Where the two disagree, the Forever fact wins and a "Forever change" note says what moved.
Forever is still changing, and the beta closes on October 21. If you find something we got wrong, tell us in the guild's Discord at https://nervehq.com/discord and we will update the guide.
What Forever Changes
Blizzard describes Forever as a new game set in original Azeroth with a level 1 to 60 path, no flying mounts, and no level scaling, and says it is not a new version of Classic (Confirmed for Forever, F13). These changes matter most for leveling and builds, as of October 19, 2026.
| System | What Changes | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Talent trees | Talents start at level 10 with the same number of rows as Classic. Gold medal talents sit at 11, 16, 21, and 31 points; the 16-point one is new. Buff talents such as Divine Spirit and Blessing of Kings are now baseline [F1] [F12]. | Confirmed for Forever |
| Respecs and Dual Specialization | Dual Specialization opens at level 40. You respec at a class trainer in a major city. The 1 silver respec cost is beta-only, and the launch cost is unknown [F1] [F15]. | Confirmed for Forever (respec cost Beta) |
| Legacy System | Account-wide Legacy Points come from 65 challenges; for most players the first arrives when their first character reaches 25. Each character spends up to 16 points on perks such as Well Rested and Talented, which unlocks talent points up to 5 levels early [F6]. | Confirmed for Forever |
| Class abilities | Every class gained baseline spells, such as Victory Rush for Warriors, Seal of Fury for Paladins, Aimed Shot for Hunters, and Revive for Druids, and lost or merged talents [F1] to [F5]. | Confirmed for Forever |
| Stats and gear | Melee, ranged, and spell hit are one stat, and so is critical strike chance. Items carry less weapon skill, and unique dungeon boss items are blue [F12]. | Confirmed for Forever |
| Spell ranks | Spells cast at ranks far below your level get less from spell power and trigger class procs less often [F16] [F18]. | Beta |
| Rage | Rage is normalized to weapon speed, and Blizzard rebalanced it on October 8 for questing Warriors rather than tanks [F1] [F17]. | Beta |
| Raid-wide buffs | Battle Shout, Trueshot Aura, Moonkin Aura, Leader of the Pack, and several Shaman totems reach the whole raid as of October 15 [F18]. | Beta |
| Leveling pace | Over a thousand new quests from 1 to 60. Dungeon quests give 50 percent less bonus experience, dungeon kills give about 20 percent more, and Blizzard wants optimal dungeon leveling close to optimal questing [F12] [F16] [F17] [F19]. | Beta |
| Grouping tools | A Group Finder and a Looking For Group interface list dungeons by level range [F17] [F18]. | Beta |
| Mounts | You pay for riding training and get a mount when you learn the skill, as in the Burning Crusade [F12]. | Confirmed for Forever |
| Races | The Skyborne start on Zephras Isle (levels 1 to 12) on both factions. New Horde options include Orc Mage, Troll Warlock, and Undead Paladin, and Undead are the only Horde Paladins. Racials were retuned on October 15 [F10] [F11] [F18]. | Confirmed for Forever (racial values Beta) |
| Professions | Over 600 new recipes, crafted food that can give a small experience bonus, campsite objects at skill 20, and lower vendor prices for many crafted items [F6] [F12] [F18]. | Confirmed for Forever (vendor prices Beta) |
| Rulesets and world PvP | Normal, PvP, and Roleplaying rulesets, with Hardcore after launch. You cannot group across rulesets or move characters between them. On the PvP ruleset each account plays one faction, and no low-level PvP protection is planned [F9] [F22]. | Confirmed for Forever |
| PvP progression | Honor is a currency, and Rank Points climb the original ranks to High Warlord with a weekly cap. An Honor gear set upgrades to epic with Emboldened Seals [F7]. | Confirmed for Forever |
| Darkspear Islands | A new 15 versus 15 battleground for levels 30 to 60, with four capture points and a central flag [F8]. | Confirmed for Forever |
| Raids at 60 | Barrow Deeps (10 players) and Hyjal Summit (20 players) arrive on December 9 [F13]. | Confirmed for Forever |
Build Your Plan
One Character
Use the class sections and pick a profession pair you can afford. Buy the crafts you are missing or work with other players. You do not need a nine-character account.
Alts or a Guild
Coordinate recipe collectors and tradeable supplies. Duplicate crafts only when personal gear, cooldowns, or convenience justify the cost.
Forever talents, recipes, unlocks, and prices are still settling, so treat every number here as a starting point. For full talent allocations, follow the build references in each class section.
Choose a Leveling Path
| Class | Leveling Path | When It Fits | Forever Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rogue | Combat swords | Solo quests and dungeon DPS | Rogues can now use one-handed axes, and Hack and Slash adds an axe bonus (Confirmed for Forever). |
| Warlock | Affliction | Pet-assisted quests and sustain | Affliction can now sustain its own health through drains (Confirmed for Forever). |
| Hunter | Beast Mastery | Outdoor quests and farming | The pet can tank in solo play and scales with your gear (Confirmed for Forever). |
| Warrior | Arms at 30; optional Fury early | Two-hander solo; shield kit for tanking | Fury was reworked on October 1 for more early leveling choices (Beta). |
| Druid | Resto in steady groups; Feral solo | Healing groups or mixed solo play | Revive at 12 and Swiftmend at 16 points (Confirmed for Forever); Tiger's Fury removed (Beta). |
| Shaman | Enhancement; consider Elemental at 40 | Melee quests; healing with caster gear | Stormstrike now comes at 16 points (Confirmed for Forever). |
| Priest | Wand and Spirit Tap; Shadow around 40 | Solo Shadow or dedicated healing | Shadowform halves the Mana cost of Shadow spells (Confirmed for Forever). |
| Paladin | Ret solo; Protection for tanking | Choose by your actual group schedule | Forever change: Consecration is baseline at 20, so tanks no longer take Holy 11 for it, and only Undead can be Horde Paladins (Confirmed for Forever). |
| Mage | Single-target Frost | Control, defense, and steady questing | Blizzard weakened Improved Blizzard and Cone of Cold to stop AoE instance farming (Confirmed for Forever). |
Blizzard has not ranked any specialization as fastest for leveling, so every solo leveling pick here is not yet confirmed. Talent milestones in the class sections follow the Classic pace of one point per level from 10, and the Legacy perk Talented can unlock points up to 5 levels early (Confirmed for Forever, F6).
Leveling and raid builds serve different jobs. Talent respecs may cost gold, and a profession commitment does not prevent a talent change. At 60, choose your raid role and talents from the content, your gear, and Forever tuning, and keep a leveling build only while it still serves the activity you are doing.
Choose a Profession Pair
| Class | Suggested Pair | Primary Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Rogue | Engineering and Mining | Combat tools and surplus metal |
| Warlock | Tailoring and Enchanting | Personal cloth crafts and enchant services |
| Hunter | Mining and Skinning | Outdoor beast and ore gathering |
| Warrior | Engineering and Mining | Tank utility and surplus metal |
| Druid | Alchemy and Herbalism | Consumables and gathering |
| Shaman | Tribal Leatherworking and Skinning | Leather recipes and skin income |
| Priest | Tailoring and Herbalism | Cloth crafts and herbs |
| Paladin | Alchemy and Herbalism | Consumables and gathering |
| Mage | Tailoring and Herbalism | Personal cloth crafts and herbs |
These are balanced starting plans, not mandatory pairs or a gold ranking. Engineering favors combat utility, and two crafts need funding. Buy tradeable crafts or coordinate with other players when you do not make them yourself. The pairs and the recipes named in the class sections are not yet confirmed, and whether any profession gives a class-specific advantage in Forever is still unknown.
Fund the Character You Play
- Protect your leveling budget. Pay for useful skills, travel, repairs, and meaningful gear upgrades before expensive profession grinds. Your mount cost now sits in riding training (Confirmed for Forever, F12).
- Earn with the character you play. Gather on your route or farm suitable loot. You do not need to finish a separate farmer before earning gold.
- Build one business at a time. Buy recipes for personal use or demonstrated demand. Test small batches before committing your materials.
Crafting Coverage
- One character: buy missing crafts.
- Several alts: concentrate rare recipes.
- Guild: coordinate suppliers and crafters.
More professions do not guarantee more profit. Hunter, Warlock, and Mage have different farming strengths, so compare actual net earnings and the time required [4, 16, 18]. Do not buy gold: accounts suspected of it can lose trade, mail, and auction house access until reviewed (Beta, F20).
Measure Profit Before Expanding
Net profit = sale proceeds after fees, minus ingredients, minus other costs.
Value gathered materials at their sale price. Include failed listings, travel, deaths, customer search, and training costs.
These cooldowns are the original game's numbers (Not yet confirmed).
| Cooldown | Per Character | Average per Week | Example Coverage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arcanite transmute | 2 days | 3.5 | 2 Alchemists: 7 |
| Mooncloth | 4 days | 1.75 | 3 Tailors: 5.25 |
| Refined Deeprock Salt | 3 days | 2.33 | 1 Leatherworker: 2.33 |
Example: a 300g setup and 10g net per two-day transmute comes to about 35g a week, so payback takes about 8.6 weeks.
Capacity is not profit. Skill, recipes, materials, tools, and actual use of the cooldown are all required. Mooncloth needs a Moonwell. These are example prices only [11, 14, 17].
Keep Your Bank Simple
Set Up Near the Bank, Mailbox, and Auction House
Buy enough bag space. Keep immediate combat and quest supplies on your adventuring character.
Keep a Short Record
Track item, quantity, ingredient value, fees, sale proceeds, and net profit.
Sell Stock in Useful Quantities
Reserve materials for planned crafts. Avoid spending the entire budget on untested stock.
Each Session
- Before: collect sales and check cooldowns.
- During: gather and keep useful loot.
- After: mail tradeable stock and list small batches.
- Weekly: compare crafting returns with your best farm.
A bank character needs no expensive profession setup. Blizzard has not published Forever mail delivery times or auction house fees, so check mail delays before relying on immediate transfers (Not yet confirmed).
Horde Route Options
| Level Band | Quest Hub Options | Dungeon Options |
|---|---|---|
| 1 to 12 | Your starting zone and nearby follow-up hubs | Learn class tools; avoid long detours |
| 12 to 22 | Barrens or Silverpine | Ragefire Chasm, Wailing Caverns; Shadowfang Keep later |
| 22 to 30 | Southern Barrens, Stonetalon, Ashenvale, Thousand Needles | Shadowfang Keep, Blackfathom Deeps; Razorfen Kraul later |
| 30 to 40 | Stranglethorn, Desolace, Arathi; Shimmering Flats | Scarlet Monastery wings; Razorfen Kraul |
| 40 to 50 | Tanaris, Feralas, Hinterlands | Razorfen Downs, Uldaman, Zul'Farrak |
| 50 to 60 | Un'Goro, Felwood, Plaguelands, Winterspring | Maraudon, Sunken Temple, selected Blackrock Depths routes |
These are overlapping planning bands, not entry requirements (Not yet confirmed). Match the wing and bosses to the group. New starts and class quests need Forever routing [37, 40].
- Windshaper Skyborne start on Zephras Isle and quest there from 1 to 12 (Confirmed for Forever, F10).
- Forever adds over a thousand new quests, so expect hubs this table does not list (Confirmed for Forever, F12).
- From level 30 you can queue for Darkspear Islands, including at the Darkspear Raiders base on the Merchant Coast in the Barrens (Confirmed for Forever, F8).
- On the PvP ruleset no low-level PvP protection is planned (Confirmed for Forever, F22).
Alliance Route Options
| Level Band | Quest Hub Options | Dungeon Options |
|---|---|---|
| 1 to 12 | Elwynn, Dun Morogh, or Teldrassil in the original game | Learn class tools; use the actual Forever starting area |
| 12 to 22 | Westfall, Loch Modan, or Darkshore; Redridge later | Deadmines toward the upper end |
| 22 to 30 | Redridge, Duskwood, Wetlands, or Ashenvale | Stockades, Blackfathom Deeps; Gnomeregan later |
| 30 to 40 | Stranglethorn, Desolace, Arathi; Shimmering Flats | Scarlet Monastery wings; Razorfen Kraul |
| 40 to 50 | Tanaris, Feralas, Hinterlands | Razorfen Downs, Uldaman, Zul'Farrak |
| 50 to 60 | Un'Goro, Felwood, Plaguelands, Winterspring | Maraudon, Sunken Temple, selected Blackrock Depths routes |
The same cautions apply as for the Horde table (Not yet confirmed) [37, 40]. Skyborne are playable on both factions and start on Zephras Isle (Confirmed for Forever, F10). On the PvP ruleset each account can only make characters for one faction (Confirmed for Forever, F9).
Heal or Tank While Leveling
Healing While Leveling
Carry Intellect and Spirit gear and drinks, and train the healing spells you use. Early dungeons often allow healing in a damage build; harder runs may justify deeper healing talents. Restoration Druid fits steady groups, while Feral keeps solo progress stronger between runs.
Tanking While Leveling
Keep a shield and defensive tools ready, and set pulls to the healer's Mana and the group's control. Arms Warrior can level and tank; deep Protection costs solo damage. Forever change: the PDF said an early Holy investment gives a Paladin tank Consecration, but every Paladin now learns it at level 20 (Confirmed for Forever, F5). Druids are fully capable tanks, and Enhancement Shaman can tank small groups for a while (Confirmed for Forever, F2, F3).
Is Dungeon Leveling Faster?
Count group search, travel, drinking, and failed runs when comparing experience per hour. Healing invitations do not guarantee faster leveling [25 to 28, 31, 34]. Blizzard says optimal dungeon leveling should land close to optimal questing, and dungeon experience is still being tuned (Beta, F19).
Rogue
Leveling path: Combat. Combat gives steady solo damage; use your strongest suitable weapon rather than keeping a weak sword for the label.
Forever notes. Horde Rogues can be Orc, Troll, Undead, or Windshaper Skyborne (Confirmed for Forever, F11). Poisons have more charges and stack with sharpening stones, and Sap no longer breaks Stealth (Confirmed for Forever, F4).
Build Types
| Build | Best For | Why | Forever Notes | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Assassination | Raiding at 60, Dungeons and Grouping | A dagger and Poison specialization, with finishers spent on Venom and Slice and Dice. | Mutilate (21 points) needs two daggers. Venom (31) is a new Poison finisher, and Cold Blood moved to 16 [F4]. | Not yet confirmed |
| Combat | Solo Leveling, Dungeons and Grouping, Raiding at 60 | Supports every weapon type and both Backstab and Sinister Strike builds, with some cleave from Blade Flurry. | Hack and Slash replaces the weapon specialization talents and adds an axe bonus. Flawless Execution (16) cuts the cost of Eviscerate [F4]. | Not yet confirmed |
| Subtlety | PvP, Solo Leveling | Built around combat tricks and Bleeds; Cutthroat can let Ambush be used outside Stealth. | Premeditation moved to 16 points, Thousand Cuts (31) is new, and Dirty Tricks lowers the cost of Sap and Blind [F4]. | Not yet confirmed |
Forever change: the PDF's plan was Combat swords, but Rogues can now use one-handed axes, and Hack and Slash gives them a bonus (Confirmed for Forever, F4).
Levels 1 to 19
Take Improved Sinister Strike, then useful Combat accuracy and defensive talents (Not yet confirmed). Keep your main-hand weapon, First Aid, and food current. Pull one enemy at a time, and use Gouge or Evasion before trouble escalates. Prepare for poisons around level 20, when Classic unlocked them (Not yet confirmed).
Levels 20 to 39
Work toward Blade Flurry at 30 with 21 Combat points (Not yet confirmed). Build combo points with Sinister Strike, and use Slice and Dice when the target will live long enough. Run nearby dungeon quests when the rewards offer a meaningful weapon upgrade.
Levels 40 to 60
Take Adrenaline Rush at 40 on a straight Combat path, then add Assassination damage talents from the linked build (Not yet confirmed). Use cooldowns on controlled difficult pulls. Train weapon skill after changing weapon types, though Forever items carry less weapon skill (Confirmed for Forever, F12).
Milestones assume the stated talent investment, and off-tree points delay them. Full build references: [19, 20].
Gear and Group Habits
Favor weapon upgrades, Agility, and enough Stamina to survive. Mine along your quest route and sell excess metal; Engineering is a personal utility expense first. Blizzard says Rogues are welcome in any group for Stealth and control (Confirmed for Forever, F4).
Profession Pair: Engineering and Mining
Engineering and Mining gives you personal combat tools and metal to sell, and it favors utility over crafting income. Choose devices you will use, then check specialization requirements before committing [1].
At 60
Choose raid talents around your actual weapons and Forever tuning rather than carrying a PvP-oriented Subtlety build into every raid; Subtlety is a PvP preference, not the default raid choice. Mutilate needs two daggers, so your weapons decide whether a Mutilate build fits (Confirmed for Forever, F4).
Warlock
Leveling path: Affliction. Affliction suits pet-assisted questing and sustain, and Demonology is the pet-focused alternative.
Forever notes. Horde Warlocks can be Orc, Troll, or Undead (Confirmed for Forever, F11). Curse of Agony and Curse of Doom are now Banes, so one target can carry a Bane and a Curse, and pets scale with your stats (Confirmed for Forever, F4).
Build Types
| Build | Best For | Why | Forever Notes | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Affliction | Solo Leveling, PvP | Blizzard says Affliction can now sustain its own health through strong drain effects, and Curse of Exhaustion slows by 30 percent. | Wrack (31 points) is a new drain-style spell, and Curse of Exhaustion moved to 16. Pandemic and Soul Siphon are new [F4] [F18]. | Confirmed for Forever |
| Demonology | Solo Leveling, Dungeons and Grouping | Keeps enemies focused on the pet while the Warlock deals damage. | Demonic Sacrifice (11 points) lasts 2 hours, Fel Domination is 16, Soul Link is 21, and Demonic Pact (31) keeps the Sacrifice bonus with another demon out [F4]. | Confirmed for Forever |
| Destruction | Raiding at 60, Dungeons and Grouping | Bane of Havoc copies 15 percent of your damage onto a second target. | Conflagrate moved to 16 points, Bane of Havoc is 21, and Incinerate is the new 31-point spell [F4]. | Not yet confirmed |
Levels 1 to 19
Start with Improved Corruption, then build sustain through Improved Life Tap and Fel Concentration (Not yet confirmed). Keep a wand early and complete your demon unlocks. Let the pet establish threat, apply damage over time spells, then wand when more casting would waste Mana. Keep a Healthstone, food, and useful Soul Shards; Drain Soul now has a rising chance to grant one (Confirmed for Forever, F4). Sell some cloth and greens instead of consuming everything for profession skill.
Levels 20 to 39
As Drain Life and your gear improve, build toward drain-based sustain. Fel Concentration reduces interruption (Not yet confirmed). You do not need the Voidwalker to hold every target. Fear only where fleeing enemies will not pull extra packs.
Levels 40 to 60
Continue Affliction sustain and add complementary Demonology talents (Not yet confirmed). Forever change: the PDF named Dark Pact as the optional deep-Affliction route, but the 31-point Affliction talent in Forever is Wrack, so check the Forever calculator before planning around Dark Pact (Confirmed for Forever, F4). Quest through productive kill areas, and learn one manageable cloth or material farm before trying complex dungeon solos.
Milestones assume the stated talent investment, and off-tree points delay them. Full build references: [21, 22].
Gear and Group Habits
Value useful spell damage, Stamina, and an adequate Mana pool; Life Tap now scales with Spirit (Confirmed for Forever, F4). In dungeons, manage pet pulls and Life Tap with the healer's Mana in mind. Compare disenchant, vendor, and auction values before consuming loot.
Profession Pair: Tailoring and Enchanting
Tailoring gives you personal crafts and sale goods, and Enchanting gives you materials and services. Two crafts need a budget. In the original game, enchant services went through the trade window, so a character could not directly enchant another character's soulbound gear on the same account (Not yet confirmed) [2, 3].
At 60
Choose raid talents for the content and rules in use. Destruction is the raid call in the table, though that call is not yet confirmed.
Hunter
Leveling path: Beast Mastery. Build pet durability and damage for outdoor quests and farming.
Forever notes. Horde Hunters can be Orc, Tauren, Troll, or Windshaper Skyborne (Confirmed for Forever, F11). Pets scale with your gear, each pet family has its own ability, and Foxes are a new family. Hunters still cannot stun or interrupt (Confirmed for Forever, F2).
Build Types
| Build | Best For | Why | Forever Notes | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Beast Mastery | Solo Leveling | Blizzard confirms the pet can tank in solo play. | Summon Hawk (16 points) adds a second attacker, and Focused Fire raises Hunter and pet damage. Several family abilities were weakened on October 15 [F2] [F18]. | Confirmed for Forever |
| Marksmanship | Raiding at 60, Dungeons and Grouping | Trueshot Aura moved to the 21-point slot and became raid-wide; Lone Wolf gives 20 percent more damage with no pet out. | Sniper Shot (31 points) is a 45-yard shot that extends the range of the next 3 shots [F2] [F18]. | Not yet confirmed |
| Survival | PvP, Solo Leveling | Rebuilt around traps and melee, so the Hunter can move between ranged and melee. | Counterattack is the 16-point talent, and Strider Kick (21) and Lacerating Strikes (31) are new. Wyvern Sting was removed [F2]. | Not yet confirmed |
Levels 1 to 19
Prioritize the level-10 pet quest (Not yet confirmed). Keep your pet fed, trained, and near your level, and update your ranged weapon and ammunition. Let the pet establish threat, and practice recalling it before an accidental extra pull.
Levels 20 to 39
Aspect of the Cheetah helps travel from 20; turn it off when hits are likely, because of its daze penalty (Not yet confirmed). Favor beast-rich areas with ore access. Avoid unnecessary Auto Shot clipping, and note that Auto Shot now needs you to stand still for half a second (Beta, F18). Heal the pet between pulls as needed. Aimed Shot is now baseline at level 20 (Confirmed for Forever, F2).
Levels 40 to 60
In Classic, Intimidation came at 30 and Bestial Wrath at 40 with the required points in Beast Mastery, and Bestial Wrath improves difficult outdoor fights (Not yet confirmed). In Forever the 16-point Beast Mastery talent is Summon Hawk, so check the calculator for the rest (Confirmed for Forever, F2). Add complementary Marksmanship talents after the Beast Mastery core. Practice Feign Death and trap escapes; traps now work in combat on a 30-second cooldown (Confirmed for Forever, F2). Test a repeatable route for kills, skins, ore, competition, and travel time.
Milestones assume the stated talent investment, and off-tree points delay them. Full build references: [23, 24].
Gear and Group Habits
Ranged weapon damage is a major upgrade priority, with Agility and Stamina valuable. Turn off pet Growl in tanked dungeon groups. Farming on this character is optional whenever another character earns more per hour [4], [5].
Profession Pair: Mining and Skinning
Mining and Skinning fits outdoor beast and ore routes; humanoid and boss farms produce little leather. Sell materials or supply a crafter when the return is worthwhile. Under Classic rules, Find Minerals competes with Hunter tracking (Not yet confirmed) [4, 5].
At 60
Choose your raid role and talents from the content, your gear, and Forever tuning. Marksmanship is the raid call, and Trueshot Aura now reaches the whole raid (Beta, F18).
Warrior
Leveling path: Arms at 30, with optional Fury early. Quest with a two-hander and keep a shield kit for tanking; an early Fury build can respec to Arms at 30, and starting Arms also works.
Forever notes. Every Horde race can be a Warrior, including Windshaper Skyborne (Confirmed for Forever, F11). Victory Rush at level 20 heals 10 percent of your maximum health after a kill, and Tactical Mastery is baseline at 14 (Confirmed for Forever, F1).
Build Types
| Build | Best For | Why | Forever Notes | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Arms | Solo Leveling, PvP | Extra Overpower chances on targets with Rend help while questing. Spearing Strike dismounts its target, which matters in world PvP. | Spearing Strike is the new 16-point talent and needs Battle Stance. Weaponmaster replaces the weapon specialization talents [F1] [F16]. | Not yet confirmed |
| Fury | Raiding at 60, Dungeons and Grouping | Blizzard says Warriors are strong at sustained damage against several melee targets, and Whirlwind now hits with both weapons. | Reworked on October 1 for more early leveling choices. Bloodthirst no longer heals and instead grants movement speed [F1] [F16]. | Beta |
| Protection | Dungeons and Grouping, Raiding at 60, PvP (second spec) | Blizzard says any party or raid is happy to take a Warrior tank. Thunder Clap and Charge both work in Defensive Stance. | Focused Rage moved earlier to smooth Protection leveling. Improved Shield Block and Improved Taunt are baseline [F1] [F15] [F16]. | Confirmed for Forever |
Levels 1 to 19
Fight enemies at or below your level when practical. Prioritize weapon damage, First Aid, food, and controlled pulls. Carry a shield before volunteering to tank. A healer partner can make difficult quests more efficient.
Levels 20 to 39
Keep weapons and weapon skill current. At 30, a full Arms allocation can take Sweeping Strikes, and you work toward Mortal Strike at 40 (Not yet confirmed). Use dungeon quests for useful rewards without spending hours chasing a single drop.
Levels 40 to 60
Continue Arms for solo speed, and use your shield and defenses when incoming damage demands them. Deep Protection suits dedicated group tanking but slows solo kills (Not yet confirmed). An eventual tank role does not require deep Protection from level 10, and Dual Specialization at 40 lets you keep a tank build beside your leveling one (Confirmed for Forever, F1).
Milestones assume the stated talent investment, and off-tree points delay them. Full build references: [25, 26].
Gear and Group Habits
Keep separate damage and tanking pieces as bags allow. In dungeons, mark dangerous enemies, control extra pulls, and use threat abilities rather than assuming a shield alone holds aggro. Mining funds repairs and Engineering.
Profession Pair: Engineering and Mining
Engineering and Mining supports planned pulls and personal tanking tools, and Mining can offset costs. Blacksmithing is not required to wear ordinary tradeable crafted plate. Force Reactive Disk is an Engineering option, not the best shield for every fight (Not yet confirmed) [1, 6, 7].
At 60
Tune the tank build to your gear, healer support, and encounter demands; Engineering remains useful for planned pulls [1]. Fury is the damage call for raids but is still changing in the beta. Protection can also serve as a PvP second specialization (Beta, F16).
Druid
Leveling path: Restoration in steady groups, Feral solo. Restoration fits regular dungeon groups, and Feral with a caster gear set gives stronger solo progress between runs and can heal early dungeons [8].
Forever notes. Horde Druids can be Tauren or Windshaper Skyborne (Confirmed for Forever, F11). Shapeshifted Druids can now drink potions and use weapon enchants without leaving form, and Omen of Clarity is baseline at 20. Druids still cannot snare, silence, or interrupt (Confirmed for Forever, F2).
Build Types
| Build | Best For | Why | Forever Notes | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Balance | Solo Leveling, PvP | Wrath is cheap to cast, Hurricane has no cooldown, and Entangling Roots works indoors. | Insect Swarm moved to Balance as the 16-point talent, and Eclipse is new [F2] [F18]. | Not yet confirmed |
| Feral (Cat) | Solo Leveling, Dungeons and Grouping | Weapon enchants and potions now work in form, and Shifting Power replaces powershifting with one button. | Shifting Power (16 points) trades Mana for 40 Energy, and Berserk (31) is new. Tiger's Fury was removed on October 1 [F2] [F16]. | Not yet confirmed |
| Feral (Bear) | Dungeons and Grouping, Raiding at 60 | Blizzard calls Druids fully capable tanks. | Primal Bite (16 points) replaces Mangle, Lacerate is baseline at 42, and Growl's cooldown now matches Taunt [F2] [F17]. | Confirmed for Forever |
| Restoration | Dungeons and Grouping, Raiding at 60 | Wild Growth puts a strong, fading heal over time on a whole party, filling the old gap in Druid group healing. | Swiftmend moved to 16 points and no longer consumes the heal over time, and Wild Growth (31) is new [F2]. | Confirmed for Forever |
Levels 1 to 19
Unlock Bear Form around 10 (Not yet confirmed) and train healing spells. Quest in forms between groups. Keep Intellect and Spirit pieces, including cloth, for healing, and physical gear for solo play. Find a dependable tank before relying on repeated dungeon runs.
Levels 20 to 39
For dungeon healing, prioritize Improved Healing Touch, Nature's Focus, Reflection, and other healing improvements; straight Restoration reaches Nature's Swiftness at 30 (Not yet confirmed). Forever change: the PDF counted on Insect Swarm for solo help, but it is now the 16-point Balance talent (Confirmed for Forever, F2). Cat Form helps between runs from 20, though Feral talents improve its damage.
Levels 40 to 60
Forever change: the PDF had straight Restoration reaching Swiftmend at 40, but Swiftmend is now the 16-point talent, and the 31-point slot is the new Wild Growth (Confirmed for Forever, F2). Match the Healing Touch rank to the damage and limit overhealing; very low ranks now get less from spell power (Beta, F18). Avoid blanket Regrowth that drains Mana, and carry drinks. Forever change: Classic Druids lacked an ordinary resurrection spell, but every Forever Druid learns Revive at level 12, an out-of-combat resurrection (Confirmed for Forever, F2) [38, 39].
Milestones assume the stated talent investment, and off-tree points delay them. Full build references: [27, 28].
Gear and Group Habits
Gather during quest travel and breaks, and make useful consumables when their margin is positive. Healing can improve group access, but tank shortages, travel, drinking, and failed runs still count. Compare total experience per session, including group formation, before calling dungeon leveling faster.
Profession Pair: Alchemy and Herbalism
Alchemy and Herbalism fits healing, tanking, and travel between groups. You can buy tradeable leather healing crafts such as Hide of the Wild and Corehound Belt without learning Leatherworking (Not yet confirmed). Craft consumables when the ingredient-to-sale margin supports it [9, 10, 14].
Feral Option
For Feral, prioritize Feline Swiftness, Ferocity, and damage talents (Not yet confirmed). Keep caster gear for healing and a tank set for Bear, and swap gear for the job before the pull. Forever change: Tiger's Fury was removed on October 1, though Wowhead's Forever calculator still lists it, so do not plan a Cat build around it (Beta, F16, F23). As dungeons get harder, reassess whether your gear and group need deeper healing talents.
At 60
Select a proper healing or tank build for your assigned role. Restoration and Bear are both confirmed raid roles, and Leader of the Pack and Moonkin Aura now reach the whole raid (Beta, F18).
Shaman
Leveling path: Enhancement, with Elemental worth considering at 40. Enhancement is a practical early route; at 40, consider Elemental for solo speed if you have caster gear and a drinking budget, though staying Enhancement remains viable.
Forever notes. Horde Shaman can be Orc, Tauren, Troll, or Windshaper Skyborne (Confirmed for Forever, F11). Totems have a 1-second global cooldown and buff totems last 5 minutes. Blizzard says Shaman are among the sturdiest classes but lack effective crowd control (Confirmed for Forever, F3).
Build Types
| Build | Best For | Why | Forever Notes | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Elemental | Solo Leveling, PvP, Dungeons and Grouping | Blizzard moved a key talent earlier because Elemental lacked progression moments while leveling, and Chain Lightning costs about 35 percent less Mana. | Lava Burst is the 21-point talent, and Elemental Mastery returned as the 31 on October 15 [F15] [F18]. | Beta |
| Enhancement | Solo Leveling, Dungeons and Grouping | Can serve as a temporary tank in small groups, and Stormstrike now comes at 16 points. | Maelstrom Weapon can make Lightning Bolt instant, and Rage of the Farseer (31) is a personal attack speed cooldown [F3]. | Confirmed for Forever |
| Restoration | Dungeons and Grouping, Raiding at 60, PvP | Riptide boosts Chain Heal on the target, and buff totems now reach the whole raid. | Water Shield (11 points), Mana Tide Totem (16), and Riptide (31) are the gold medal talents [F3] [F18]. | Confirmed for Forever |
Levels 1 to 19
Complete the relevant totem quests (Not yet confirmed). Pull with a spell, then melee efficiently rather than spending all your Mana on shocks. Keep a healing reserve. Carry Intellect and Spirit gear for dungeon healing, separate from your melee set.
Levels 20 to 39
Improved Ghost Wolf helps travel, and you build Flurry and the melee damage core (Not yet confirmed). Stormstrike now comes at 16 points, much earlier than in Classic (Confirmed for Forever, F3). Prioritize useful weapon upgrades. Choose totems for the fight and group, and do not spend Mana on a full set for a short single-enemy pull. Call of the Elements at level 20 drops a saved set of four totems in one cast (Confirmed for Forever, F3).
Levels 40 to 60
Continue Enhancement, or switch to Elemental after collecting caster gear; Dual Specialization at 40 lets you keep both (Confirmed for Forever, F1). Do not respec into a caster build while wearing melee-only equipment. Deeper Restoration helps a regular healing schedule. The original game had no Enhancement dual-wield talent (Not yet confirmed).
Milestones assume the stated talent investment, and off-tree points delay them. Full build references: [29, 30].
Gear and Group Habits
Heal early dungeons with appropriate gear and attentive Mana management, and use your totems to support the group. Skin quest kills and keep Leatherworking progressing without turning every valuable skin into unsellable stock. Pursue the Tribal specialization when you are eligible and it is confirmed in Forever. Buy expensive patterns only when useful crafts or actual buyers justify them [11].
Profession Pair: Tribal Leatherworking and Skinning
Tribal Leatherworking and Skinning gives you a leather-crafting business with recipes such as Devilsaur gear and Hide of the Wild (Not yet confirmed). Collect patterns selectively. Leatherworking can remain worthwhile at 60 when demand and margins justify it. It is one option, not a required Shaman profession [11].
At 60
Choose your raid role and talents from the content, your gear, and Forever tuning. Restoration is the confirmed raid healer, and Shaman now have separate healer, melee, and caster PvP gear sets (Confirmed for Forever, F3, F7).
Priest
Leveling path: Wand and Spirit Tap, then Shadow around 40. For solo play, respec around 40 to reach Shadowform without the early Discipline points delaying it.
Forever notes. Horde Priests can be Troll or Undead (Confirmed for Forever, F11). Every Priest gets Fear Ward and Devouring Plague at 20, and Shadow Word: Death is baseline at 32. Blizzard calls Priests the most versatile healer and notes they are fragile (Confirmed for Forever, F1).
Build Types
| Build | Best For | Why | Forever Notes | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Discipline | Dungeons and Grouping, Raiding at 60 | Leans into Power Word: Shield; absorb shields are unique to Priests. | Penance (21 points) heals or damages, and Soul Warding (16) lowers Power Word: Shield's cooldown and cost [F1] [F17]. | Confirmed for Forever |
| Holy | Raiding at 60, Dungeons and Grouping | Blizzard calls the Priest the most versatile healer, with both direct and periodic healing. | Binding Heal (16 points) and Prayer of Mending (31) are new, and Lightwell was removed [F1]. | Confirmed for Forever |
| Shadow | Solo Leveling, PvP | Shadowform halves the Mana cost of Shadow spells, which helps a solo Priest last. Shadow has strong damage over time but less utility than a Warlock. | Vampiric Embrace is the 16-point talent. Shadow Weaving now only helps the casting Priest [F1] [F18]. | Not yet confirmed |
Levels 1 to 19
Take Wand Specialization at 10 to 14 and Spirit Tap at 15 to 19 (Not yet confirmed). Get a wand and keep it current. Cast a short damage sequence, then wand to finish and recover Mana. Spirit Tap requires your killing blow, so it helps solo play more than dedicated party healing. Keep useful healing spells trained.
Levels 20 to 39
Build Shadow damage while keeping the wand opener. Heal dungeons with Intellect and Spirit gear and suitable spell ranks. A dungeon-heavy schedule can justify Discipline or Holy instead, and early dungeons do not automatically require a full healing build.
Levels 40 to 60
For solo quests, respec to Shadowform around 40 (Not yet confirmed). Shadowform allows all non-healing spells, so leave it before casting Holy heals (Confirmed for Forever, F1). Dual Specialization at 40 lets you keep a healing build beside Shadow (Confirmed for Forever, F1). For mostly dungeon healing, choose healing talents and accept slower solo damage. Carry drinks even when solo sustain feels strong.
Milestones assume the stated talent investment, and off-tree points delay them. Full build references: [31, 32].
Gear and Group Habits
Keep separate healing pieces when you pursue Shadow damage gear. Gather herbs during travel and budget cloth for bags, useful crafts, and later Mooncloth. Tailoring preserves the personal Truefaith Vestments option if healing becomes important; it is not a mandatory Shadow profession. Select your level-60 role and talents according to actual raid needs [12], [13].
Profession Pair: Tailoring and Herbalism
Tailoring and Herbalism supports gathering, Mooncloth, and the personal Truefaith Vestments healing option (Not yet confirmed). Tailoring is less essential for pure Shadow. In Classic, Mind Flay and Shadow Word: Pain do not gain critical hits from the Bloodvine bonus (Not yet confirmed) [12, 13, 17].
At 60
Discipline and Holy are both confirmed healers, and Prayer of Healing now heals the target's party, so you can heal any raid group (Confirmed for Forever, F1). Shadow is the PvP call (Not yet confirmed).
Paladin
Leveling path: Retribution solo, Protection for tanking. Use Retribution for solo quests and Protection for regular dungeon tanking; Holy healing also works with a dependable group.
Forever notes. Forever change: the PDF said to use the class unlocks for your race and faction, and in Forever the only Horde race that can be a Paladin is Undead (Confirmed for Forever, F11). Every Paladin learns Holy Strike at 6, Seal of Fury at 10, and Consecration at 20, and still lacks an interrupt and a snare (Confirmed for Forever, F5).
Build Types
| Build | Best For | Why | Forever Notes | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Holy | Dungeons and Grouping, Raiding at 60 | Blizzard calls Holy the strongest single-target healer, and new talents make party healing viable. | Holy Shock moved to 21 points. Light's Vigil (31) heals an ally's whole party, and Divine Precision supplies hit that plate healing gear lacks [F5]. | Confirmed for Forever |
| Holy Shock hybrid | Solo Leveling, PvP | A hybrid that uses Holy talents for spell damage instead of Seal Twisting. | Holy Shock is the alternative to Twist of Light, supported by Divine Precision and Light's Vigil [F5]. | Not yet confirmed |
| Protection | Dungeons and Grouping, Raiding at 60 | Seal of Fury makes Judgement a taunt with a 10-yard range, and Consecration's 4-target cap keeps it level with Thunder Clap. | Templar's Bulwark (21 points) is a new shield cooldown that Holy Shield now requires. Blessing of Sanctuary was removed [F5]. | Confirmed for Forever |
| Retribution | Solo Leveling, PvP, Raiding at 60 (utility) | Holy Strike damage was raised to improve leveling, and Sacred Arbiter keeps every Judgement on a target active for the raid. | Sacred Arbiter (16 points), Repentance (21), and Twist of Light (31) bring back a gentler form of Seal Twisting [F5] [F15]. | Not yet confirmed |
Levels 1 to 19
For solo Retribution, build seal efficiency and melee damage with a strong two-hander. Judgement no longer consumes the active Seal (Confirmed for Forever, F5). Forever change: the PDF had tanks invest ten Holy points toward Consecration, using Divine Intellect and Improved Seal of Righteousness, but Consecration is now baseline at level 20, so tanks no longer need Holy points for it (Confirmed for Forever, F5). Keep a shield and healing gear.
Levels 20 to 39
Consecration deals full damage only to the first 4 enemies (Confirmed for Forever, F5). The tank route takes Protection talents such as Redoubt and Improved Righteous Fury (Not yet confirmed). Keep Righteous Fury active when tanking, and establish threat before damage dealers open. Solo Retribution continues toward its damage core.
Levels 40 to 60
Forever change: the PDF's Holy 11 and Protection 31 plan reached Holy Shield at 51 and kept Consecration, but Holy Shield now requires Templar's Bulwark, so recheck the route in the Forever calculator (Confirmed for Forever, F5). If you mostly play solo, stay Retribution and prepare a later role change; Dual Specialization at 40 lets you hold both (Confirmed for Forever, F1). Large AoE pulls need appropriate enemies, equipment, and Mana.
Milestones assume the stated talent investment, and off-tree points delay them. Full build references: [33, 34].
Gear and Group Habits
Keep tank, solo damage, and healing pieces for the roles you actually use. Forever change: Classic Paladins lacked a conventional taunt, but in Forever Seal of Fury makes Judgement a taunt (Confirmed for Forever, F5). Alchemy and Herbalism supports all three roles [14].
Profession Pair: Alchemy and Herbalism
Alchemy and Herbalism supports consumable crafting and gathering in any role. Tradeable potions, elixirs, and flasks can serve other players. Raid leadership adds no profession bonus, and this pairing does not require a second Alchemist on your account (Not yet confirmed) [14].
At 60
Holy is the strongest single-target healer and Protection is a confirmed tank (Confirmed for Forever, F5). Retribution brings raid utility through Sacred Arbiter, though that call is not yet confirmed.
Mage
Leveling path: Single-target Frost. Single-target Frost offers slows, control, and defense for steady questing.
Forever notes. Horde Mages can be Orc, Troll, or Undead (Confirmed for Forever, F11). Frostfire Bolt at level 40 counts as both Fire and Frost, and Mages get Comprehension, a minor tradeskill for reading scrolls (Confirmed for Forever, F3).
Build Types
| Build | Best For | Why | Forever Notes | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Frost | Solo Leveling, PvP | Frost keeps the strongest control in the class, and Fingers of Frost lets Ice Lance hit as if the target were frozen. | Ice Lance (11 points) deals 200 percent more damage to frozen targets. Ice Block moved to 16 and Cold Snap to 21 [F3] [F18]. | Not yet confirmed |
| Fire | Raiding at 60, Dungeons and Grouping | Built around heavy critical strikes, and Ignite is now tracked per Mage. | Heating Up shortens Pyroblast casts after critical strikes, and Improved Scorch helps only the casting Mage [F3] [F18]. | Not yet confirmed |
| Arcane | Dungeons and Grouping, Raiding at 60 | A damage role built on Arcane Blast stacks that power up the rest of the toolkit. | Arcane Blast (11 points) was redesigned again on October 15, and Arcane Wrath (16) is new [F3] [F18]. | Beta |
| Frostfire hybrid | Solo Leveling (from level 40) | Frostfire Bolt lets Fire and Frost talents both apply. Blizzard has not said which scenario it suits. | Frostfire Bolt deals upfront damage, a damage over time effect, and a slow [F3]. | Beta |
Levels 1 to 19
Pull at range and slow with Frostbolt. Keep your wand and conjured water current. Practice Frost Nova followed by distance, and Polymorph an extra enemy. Controlled pulls reduce deaths and long return trips.
Levels 20 to 39
Continue the Frost core and practice kiting. Groups value control and refreshments. In Classic, a separate Improved Blizzard build enabled an AoE route with suitable melee packs and open space, and route safety and competition decided whether it saved time. Forever change: Blizzard cut Improved Blizzard's slow to 40 percent and shortened Cone of Cold to stop large-scale AoE farming of instances, so treat that AoE build as weaker than in Classic (Confirmed for Forever, F3). From 24, Frost Blast takes over the slow that Rank 1 Frostbolt used to provide (Beta, F18).
Levels 40 to 60
Ice Barrier is available at 40 with 31 Frost points (Not yet confirmed), but Forever moved the Frost gold medal talents, so check the calculator (Confirmed for Forever, F3). Maintain defenses and Mana recovery. Compare AoE grinding with normal quests after counting deaths and competition. On the PvP ruleset, interruptions can erase an expected speed advantage.
Milestones assume the stated talent investment, and off-tree points delay them. Full build references: [35, 36].
Gear and Group Habits
Value useful spell damage, Intellect, and enough Stamina for mistakes or PvP. Use control before a pull gets out of hand. Charge for optional services only when buyers exist. Your leveling build does not need to be permanent.
Profession Pair: Tailoring and Herbalism
Tailoring and Herbalism supports bags, personal cloth crafts, Mooncloth, and suitable gathering routes. Robe of the Archmage binds when picked up, and the Classic Bloodvine set bonus requires 300 Tailoring. These are content-dependent gear examples, not launch promises (Not yet confirmed) [2, 15, 16, 17].
At 60
Choose raid Frost or Fire from encounter resistances and Forever tuning. Frostfire Bolt uses the target's lower Fire or Frost resistance (Confirmed for Forever, F3). Arcane is still changing in the beta.
Your Launch Checklist
Choose the Class and Route You Want to Play
Use solo builds when questing dominates. Choose healing or tanking investment when you have dependable groups.
Commit to an Affordable Profession Plan
Check personal item requirements, specialization rules, and the recipes you want before spending heavily.
Set Up the Money Routine
Protect skill and travel funds. Start with small sales. Record net profit and time.
Check What Forever Changed
Confirm talent trees, class unlocks, resurrection tools, tank abilities, cooldowns, and content availability. So far:
- Talent trees: reworked for every class, with gold medal talents at 11, 16, 21, and 31 points (Confirmed for Forever, F1).
- Class unlocks: Undead are the only Horde Paladins, and Orc Mage and Troll Warlock are new (Confirmed for Forever, F11).
- Resurrection tools: every Druid learns Revive at level 12 (Confirmed for Forever, F2).
- Tank abilities: Seal of Fury makes Judgement a taunt, Improved Taunt is baseline, and Growl matches Taunt (Confirmed for Forever, F1, F2, F5).
- Crafting cooldowns: not yet published (Not yet confirmed).
- Content: Barrow Deeps and Hyjal Summit arrive on December 9 (Confirmed for Forever, F13).
This is a planning guide, not a claim that every mechanic or profession return is confirmed for launch.
